Do you have family and friends that are into Prepping? Or more likely, do you have family and friends that you WISH were into prepping but they just shake their head at you and think your preparedness activities are crazy? Since I am in that boat, I try to give gifts to family and friends that may help them in an emergency…… whether they want to prep or not, LOL.
So what better time then the holidays to give some small gifts or prepper stocking stuffers to your friends and family that will provide them with some emergency supplies whether they think they need them or not. I know that my mom has ended up using some of the prepper gifts I have given her when her electricity has gone out. Like the below little lantern that I bought as a 4 pack and gave out as gifts to family and friends (I had purchased one first to test at my off grid homestead and gave it a big thumbs up).
You might recognize this lantern if you are on Facebook. There is a company selling them under another name and charging $19.99 each – YIKES! So being the frugal shopper that I am I searched the internet and found numerous choices but these are by far the best quality and pricing. Works out to $6.50 per lantern when you purchase the 4-pack. These little lanterns are BRIGHT and have replaced my far larger 6 D-cell battery lantern. Recharging D-cell batteries off grid is a pain and it is far easier and cheaper to stock re-chargeable AA and AAA batteries than D-cell batteries. These little lanterns come with 3 AA regular batteries but once you wear those out, use re-chargeable AA batteries like Eneloop. I even found a “smart charger” that works with the Eneloop batteries that has a DC car charger cord that can easily plug into a DC solar system or into my truck as I drive.
The other prepper gift purchase I made this year was some Bivvy bags. The brand I got is unfortunately sold out currently but this 2-pack is available and now I wish I would have ordered these because I paid $19.97 each for the ones I got. These will not hold up to rough use so mainly keep them for an emergency or to slip inside a real sleeping bag when it gets below freezing. That is my plan for one of the ones I ordered. So far 44 degrees Fahrenheit is the coldest it has gotten inside this winter, but when it gets down to the low 30s, my normal sleeping bag isn’t enough. Last winter I used one of my mylar blankets inside my sleeping bag and it probably saved my life.
It is amazing the amount of small survival items you can fit into an x-mas stocking, you can even purchase a Prepper stocking to fill (see below). I would personally pack a bunch of items into a back pack to make the beginnings of a get home bag, but even a fanny pack can carry some vital items like fire starters, first aide kit, mylar blankets, water purification straw, etc. The sky is the limit on what is available on Amazon or available at your local Walmart, even 99 cent/Dollar stores have some great affordable items. The recipients may one day thank you for providing them with these potentially life saving items.
Many of these stocking stuffers can be purchased in multi-pack on Amazon for far cheaper than even the 99 cent store. Grab a few for yourself and use the rest as stocking stuffers.
Here are some small personal water filters which most “normal” people don’t realize how important they are. Can be true life savers in an emergency.
